England banned handguns in 1997. Since then, crimes involving handguns have increased 40%. In London in the past year, muggings involving a firearm rose 53%, murders with a gun increased 90%, and robberies were up over 100%.

The vice chairman of London's Metropolitan Police Federation thinks the ban has not affected the number of guns in the hands of criminals. "The underground supply of guns does not seem to have dried up at all," he said.

British professor and criminologist John Benyon says, "People are increasingly concerned that we are losing the fight against armed crime." I don't think England is losing the fight. I think they've already surrendered.
