NRO has an interesting article today about an unfortunate effect of the debate on racial profiling: Cops are becoming more reluctant to take any risks on the job, especially in ethnic neighborhoods. "Parking under a shady tree to work on a crossword puzzle is a great alternative to being labeled a racist and being dragged through an inquest, a review board, an FBI and U.S. Attorney's investigation and a lawsuit." Apparently arrests in Cincinnati have decreased 35% since the riots and the indictment of a police officer there. It's too bad that good cops and good citizens have to suffer through a bad situation created by bad cops, bad citizens, and bad politicians.
